US Intelligence Ties Chinese Explosive Test to Nuclear Push

US intelligence ties Chinese explosive test to nuclear push as Beijing modernizes its arsenal.

Intelligence reports say China is working on the next generation of nuclear weapon systems that will utilize the newest technology. China recently conducted a test according to many reports, and this claim stems from an explosive test China allegedly conducted. Also, reports say that China is trying to make its nuclear weapons systems the most sophisticated in the world.

Beijing has purportedly been conducting secret explosive tests at the Lop Nur site in Northwest China. Tests in violation of a self-imposed moratorium on nuclear tests are not to be practiced as a test. The practiced tests are said to be based on the next generation of nuclear weapon technology.

China Aims for Nuclear Capability for Large Multi-Warhead Systems

Intelligence reports claim that China wants to develop the capability to deliver multiple, miniaturized warheads from a single missile. This would mean that China would have the ability to conduct strikes that are far more accurate and diverse.

Evidence from the 2020 test event supports the theory that China has been rapidly increasing their modernization of their military nuclear weapons. Additionally, China has been developing lower-yield nuclear weapons that military forces can use in local conflict situations rather than against distant targets. Many analysts believe China designed these smaller nuclear weapons to help defend Taiwan.

Changes and Competition

The Defense Intelligence Agency has said that the expansion of China’s nuclear forces has been rapid. This is in part because of their competing goals with the U.S. China has had nuclear weapons since 1964, but now they are becoming more sophisticated.

Some Pentagon officials are worried about the other options China has, and they think they may have an opportunity for more provocative military action against U.S. allies. Although China has had a “no-first-use” policy, experts are speculating that this might change.

China Tests

The Chinese Embassy in Washington has said that the Reports from the U.S. are manipulation of the law, and a firm no from China is in order because they are not conducting secret nuclear tests. Officials in Beijing have stated that the U.S. is trying to come up with excuses to do their nuclear testing.

There is not enough data to confirm the U.S. allegations against the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty. However, they are trying to create a test in the way that decoupling is trying to hide the test. That means that something like a large cavern is detonated in the center of the cavern and creates a large sphere of molten rock which creates walls around it. The Pentagon thinks that China will have more than 1000 nuclear warheads by 2030.
