Trump and the Disrespectful White House Joke
Trump called the women’s team during his call and relayed the current ‘controversy’. He made a ‘distasteful’ joke suggesting that he was hesitant to invite the women’s team. Trump and Hillary Knight both had the opportunity to respond to Trump’s ‘unfortunate’ remarks.
On SNL, the Team USA women’s hockey stars did a parody. Knight said, “It’s a boys club now,” referring to the stage where the men were. Keller said, “The men deserve a little moment to shine,” referring to the fact that women win gold medals more than men.
Disparities in White House Invitation Responses
The political invitations responded to by the two teams have been different. While some members have been criticized for laughing at Trump’s joke in the call, the men’s team accepted the invitation to the State of the Union address. However, team did not accept the invitation.
